A About the studio

Started in 2017
to write the boring
software properly.

Two engineers — one from a tier-one telco's billing platform, one from a national fleet-telematics rollout — kept hitting the same wall: the hard parts of enterprise software in this market weren't the new ideas. They were the old ones, badly maintained. So we left to do them properly.

2020.
The year three engineers and a managing director set out to build software the way they always wished it had been built.
The story

We started Augusta because
we couldn't find a software
partner we'd hire ourselves.

In 2020, our co-founders had spent a decade watching African enterprises pay for software that never quite landed — projects that ran over, codebases nobody wanted to inherit, vendors that disappeared the day after go-live. We thought we could do better. So we set out to.

Augusta was built around a simple commitment: ship cleanly, on time, every sprint, with code your next team will thank us for. That commitment has held through nine years, fifty-plus production systems, and engagements with everyone from Nairobi-based fintech startups to government agencies serving fourteen counties.

"We don't ship fast — we ship right. The market has plenty of teams who'll move quickly. We're the team you call when 'quickly' means breaking things you can't fix in production."

Today our 100+ specialists are organised into product squads — each blending senior engineering, product, design, and quality talent — so customers get the same caliber of team for a single mobile app and for a national-scale telematics platform.

Our headquarters remain in Upper Hill, Nairobi. We are deliberately Kenyan, deliberately African, and deliberately international in standard.

What we stand for

Three statements,
nine years defended.

01 / Mission

What we do, every day.

To engineer durable digital systems that meaningfully advance the businesses, institutions, and communities of East Africa — by combining international engineering standards with deep local context.

02 / Vision

Where we're headed.

To be the engineering partner Africa's most ambitious enterprises trust by default — the team that appears on every shortlist, and the team that gets the job.

03 / Promise

The standard we hold.

Every line of code we ship earns its keep — for the customer, the next engineer, and the team five years from now. Innovating Through Software Excellence is a working agreement, not a slogan.

Core values

The four non-negotiables
that shape every engagement.

These aren't laminated wall art. They're how we hire, how we make decisions, and how we say no to work that would make us worse at the work we should be doing.

01

Customer obsession

Every meaningful decision starts with: what does the customer actually need to succeed? Not what's easier to build, not what's more profitable to bill — what works. We measure the engagement on the customer's outcomes, not our hours.

02

Engineering quality

Documented architecture, automated tests, observable systems, clean handoffs. We write code for the team that comes after us — including the team that includes us, twelve months from now, when the original context is gone.

03

Visionary innovation

We invest 10% of revenue into R&D — applied AI, edge computing, IoT firmware — so when a customer asks something hard, the answer is "we already built a prototype" rather than "let's see if we can find a vendor."

04

Corporate responsibility

We are part of the East African ecosystem, not extracting from it. We hire locally, mentor publicly, contribute open source, and refuse work whose downstream effects we wouldn't want our families to live with.

Our methodology

The IMPACT framework.

Six stages, refined across nine years and fifty-plus enterprise engagements. Every Augusta project moves through them — from first call to go-live.

I

Investigate

Stakeholder interviews, system audits, and the hard questions nobody wanted to ask.

M

Map

Translate findings into a shared model: scope, architecture, risk, success metric.

P

Plan

Sprint cadence, deliverables, ownership matrix, escalation path. No surprises later.

A

Architect

System design ratified with your team. Cloud, data, security, integrations — all on paper.

C

Construct

Two-week sprints, demos every Friday, code on shared trunk, tests passing or it doesn't ship.

T

Transfer

Documentation, runbooks, knowledge transfer. Your team can run it without us — and choose to keep us anyway.

Leadership

The people accountable
for the work.
